Beach Camping
Camp Pendleton
When: Veterans Day Weekend, Nov. 10, 11, 12
Where: San Onofre / Camp Pendleton recreation center
Details:
-Check-in Fri. after 1pm and check-out Sun. is 11am.
-Our sites are 48 52 (48 is reserved for a pop-up camper)
-Two tents per site are covered in fee
-Food and sleeping arrangements handled at troop mtg.
-Bring beach stuff, but BSA rules apply to all water
sports plus the tides and surf are extremely unpredictable
along this stretch of coast and change almost daily. I don't
think surfboarding will be allowed.
-scouts with backpacks might want to consider going
"backpack style" for the practice. But food and cooking
will be patrol style, as I understand. If you choose otherwise,
let your patrol know well before hand.
Directions:
-I-5 north for approx. 45 mi. to north side of Camp Pendleton
-Take Basilone exit and turn right
-At Security Gate, tell guard you are with BSA Troop 299
Camping at the beach
-follow road around to the right and go past Commissary and
Exchange
-make a right turn at first street light and follow road to beach
-our sites are at the end of the campground along the beachfront
(past the office and store)
because of the heightened security currently in effect: Driver's License, Registration, and Insurance for adults will probably be required. It would be best to wear uniforms to reduce any possible delays.
